Transformers: Eternal War launches globally on iOS and Android

Transformers: Eternal War reaches its global launch date today, September 15, bringing Hasbro's robots back to smartphones in a free-to-play tactical squad RPG from Wanda Cinemas Games. The iOS and Android release follows a regional soft launch that has been running in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the Philippines since June. Rather than recreating one particular film or television storyline, Eternal War features an original story written by veteran Transformers writer Simon Furman.

Autobots and Decepticons are forced into a wider conflict involving the Chaos Legion, while players collect characters and assemble squads around different tactical combinations. Pre-registration incentives have included 1,000 summons and characters including Jazz and Bumblebee, giving the publisher a substantial launch-day acquisition push. The game enters an extremely competitive mobile RPG market, but Transformers remains one of the world's most recognisable entertainment properties.

Today's release will reveal whether that recognition can translate into a durable live-service audience rather than merely a large opening download spike.
