Pawprint Studio's creature-collecting RPG Aniimo is entering the final hours before its first global launch phase. PC and console versions arrive September 16, while the iOS and Android editions are scheduled for September 23. The staggered rollout gives the studio a week to establish the service before opening it to the potentially much larger smartphone audience. Aniimo combines open-world exploration with more than 200 collectible creatures at launch.
Its signature Twine mechanic allows the player to transform into collected Aniimo, using their individual abilities during exploration and combat rather than simply deploying them as companions. The game is free-to-play and designed as a cross-platform ecosystem, meaning the mobile edition is intended to provide the same wider world rather than function as a companion application. Creature-collection games remain highly competitive, so Aniimo will need more than attractive characters to retain players.
The Twine system is its clearest attempt to establish a distinctive identity.
