iOS 27 expands parental controls around children's web access

Apple has overhauled several child-safety and parental-control features in iOS 27, including a system that allows children to request permission before opening websites that fall outside established family restrictions. The approach attempts to give parents more granular control without forcing them to choose between completely unrestricted browsing and rigid blanket blocking.

Because the controls operate at operating-system level, they can be applied more consistently across supported Apple devices than restrictions implemented inside individual applications. The changes arrive amid growing regulatory pressure on technology companies to demonstrate stronger protections for younger users. For Apple, parental controls also reinforce the value of Family Sharing and the broader device ecosystem: parents managing several iPhones, iPads and Macs can administer rules from a common platform.

As with all automated content restrictions, accuracy will matter. Systems that block harmless material too aggressively can quickly become frustrating, while overly permissive filters undermine their purpose. The iOS 27 rollout puts Apple's latest approach into large-scale real-world use.
