Apple rolls iPadOS 27 and watchOS 27 into the same AI transition

Apple's September software release extends well beyond the iPhone. iPadOS 27 and watchOS 27 are rolling out alongside iOS 27, bringing parts of the company's new Siri AI and Apple Intelligence strategy to tablets and wearables. iPad improvements include faster external-drive transfers and additional visual-intelligence functionality, while watchOS expands contextual assistance around workouts and daily information.

Apple's simultaneous platform releases demonstrate why the company increasingly talks about an ecosystem rather than individual products. An assistant becomes considerably more useful when information and context can move between phone, tablet and watch instead of living inside one device. The challenge is maintaining clear privacy boundaries as those systems become more interconnected.

Apple also needs developers to adopt new platform capabilities consistently rather than treating each device as an isolated target. September's coordinated software cycle is therefore as much an infrastructure update for Apple's wider ecosystem as it is a collection of new user-facing features.
