Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed reaches iOS and Android

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is scheduled to arrive on iOS and Android today, bringing Purple Lamp's remake of the 2010 Wii adventure to smartphones as a premium release. The game revisits Wasteland and its paint-and-thinner mechanic, allowing players to restore parts of the environment or erase them to open alternative routes. The mobile edition is significant because it is another substantial PC-and-console conversion arriving without being rebuilt around a conventional free-to-play economy.

Touch controls have been adapted for smartphones, while the underlying game retains the exploration and 3D platforming structure of the remake. Premium mobile conversions are enjoying a noticeable resurgence as modern flagship phones gain enough GPU performance to run games that would previously have required dedicated hardware. The challenge is no longer merely technical.

Publishers need to convince smartphone owners that a complete game deserves a console-style purchase price when app stores have conditioned much of the audience to expect free downloads. Epic Mickey becomes another useful test of that market today.
