Game Freak's Rainy Day, Sunny Girl becomes one of TGS week's mobile games to watch

Game Freak's newly revealed Rainy Day, Sunny Girl remains one of the strongest mobile announcements heading into Tokyo Game Show week. Known in Japan as Ame Nochi Hare Onna, the colourful iOS and Android project is directed and produced by longtime Pokémon developer Shigeru Ohmori and is scheduled for winter 2026. Its central mechanic uses real-world Japanese weather information to influence what happens inside the game.

Ohmori has explained that the concept grew from something as ordinary as checking whether conditions were suitable for hanging out laundry. The result is a magical-girl game in which sunshine, rain and clouds become part of the daily gameplay loop. That makes it markedly different from location-based mobile games that primarily rely on GPS. Weather is dynamic without requiring the player to travel, potentially allowing the game to change throughout an ordinary day.

More information is expected around Tokyo Game Show, while an international release remains unconfirmed.
