OriginOS 7 debuts today as Vivo moves onto Android 17

Vivo is scheduled to unveil OriginOS 7 today during its Developer Conference in China, moving the company's smartphone software onto an Android 17 foundation. The update is expected to introduce one of Vivo's most visible interface redesigns in years, with translucent materials, dynamic lighting and fluid animations forming a new glass-inspired visual language.

Vivo is also focusing on less glamorous but arguably more important improvements to graphics rendering, application startup, page switching and storage efficiency. Software longevity has become a much larger factor in smartphone purchasing as hardware performance plateaus and consumers keep devices longer. OriginOS therefore needs to deliver more than visual novelty.

The conference is also expected to cover BlueOS 4 for watches and connected devices, reinforcing Vivo's attempt to build a broader software ecosystem rather than treating the smartphone operating system in isolation. Global rollout timing and the complete supported-device list remain among the most important unanswered questions heading into today's announcement.
